Suspect at large after ‘random and unprovoked’ stabbings on Vancouver seawall, police say

A woman stabbed three people near David Lam Park Friday morning in an attack police say was random and unprovoked.

Vancouver police are looking for a suspect after three people were stabbed in an apparently “random and unprovoked” attack on the seawall in the city’s Yaletown neighbourhood Friday morning.

Officers received “reports of multiple people stabbed” near David Lam Park just after 7:30 a.m., the Vancouver Police Department said in a news release.

Three victims were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

B.C. Emergency Health Services told CTV News it dispatched two ambulances with primary care paramedics and one with advanced care paramedics to the 1400 block of Homer Street in response to the stabbings.

The three patients were in “stable condition” when they were transported, BCEHS said.

The VPD added that the suspect “fled the area before police were called and has not yet been located.”

“Initial evidence suggests the attacks were random and unprovoked,” the police release reads.

Police described the suspect as “an Indigenous woman in her late 20s or early 30s” with long, dark hair worn in a ponytail. She has a slim build and was wearing an oversized black leather jacket, tight dark pants and “either a leopard-print shirt or scarf,” police said.

They said the suspect stands between 5′3″ and 5′7″ tall.

“We understand the concern this incident may cause for people in the area, particularly those who frequent the seawall,” said Const. Tania Visintin, in the release.

“Public safety is our top priority and we are doing everything we can to identify and arrest the suspect as quickly as possible.”
