The gusty weather that affected parts of southern B.C. over the weekend is expected to linger into the week for some coastal areas. Environment Canada issued an alert of strong winds for northern Vancouver Island, B.C.’s central coast and Haida Gwaii, with the harsh weather expected to begin Tuesday near noon and continue throughout the afternoon before easing in the evening. Gusts could reach up to 110 km/h in some areas, the weather agency warned. “A vigorous frontal system approaching the B.C. coast on Tuesday will generate strong southeasterly winds to coastal regions,” said the alert, issued Monday morning. Environment Canada issues the warnings when there’s a “significant risk” of damage from high winds, including power outages.
