Shots fired at parked vehicle in Surrey, B.C., neighbourhood

Police are investigating a shooting that targeted a parked vehicle in a residential area of Surrey, B.C., early Monday morning.

The Surrey Police Service said officers responded to a report of shots fired near 124 Street and 58 Avenue around 4 a.m.

“Upon arrival, officers discovered damage to a parked vehicle and evidence consistent with gunshots,” the SPS said in a news release. “Officers spoke with several residents in the immediate area and fortunately there were no injuries to anyone.”

Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton said investigators are still working to determine the motive for the shooting, and whether there are connections to any other violent incidents in the city.

Authorities have not “ruled out that it is extortion-related,” Houghton told CTV News.

Police asked anyone who was in the area around 4 a.m. Monday and has dash-cam or surveillance video to come forward.
