A 17-year-old has died in hospital after being hit by a semi truck on the Trans-Canada Highway – and police are appealing for witnesses to help their investigation. “Part of the investigation will be to determine the actions of the pedestrian and the semi-truck prior to the collision,” says BC RCMP spokesperson, Cpl. Alex Bérubé. “At this point in the investigation, criminality is not a factor in this incident.” North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP were called to the motor vehicle incident on the Trans-Canada Highway at Trunk Road on May 6 around 8:40 p.m. RCMP say early evidence from the scene suggests the semi truck was travelling southbound on the highway when it hit the teenager. The teen was taken to hospital where they succumbed to their injuries, according to police. A traffic reconstructionist was on scene to collect evidence. Anyone with information is asked to call North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP at 250-748-5522.
