Ontario is investing nearly $2 million in projects aimed at protecting water quality in the Great Lakes. Several organizations in southwestern Ontario are receiving a share of the funding through the Great Lakes Local Action Fund, including the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority, the Lake Huron Coastal Centre, the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority and Lambton County. Together, the local groups will receive nearly $300,000 for a range of environmental initiatives, including wetland restoration, increasing native plant species and supporting landowners undertaking projects designed to protect water quality. The province says the funding is intended to help improve the health of the Great Lakes ecosystem and strengthen local conservation efforts. Since 2021, the Great Lakes Local Action Fund has distributed more than $5.5 million to community-based projects across Ontario.
