RCMP investigating crash aboard BC Ferries vessel on Sunshine Coast

Police are investigating a crash on a BC Ferries vessel that caused delays for travellers on the Sunshine Coast Friday.

Powell River RCMP were called to the Malaspina Sky at around 7:30 a.m., according to a Sunday news release from the detachment.

“A pick-up truck had crashed into the galley ramp while loading onto the vessel,” the statement from police said, adding that the truck was “heavily damaged” in the incident.

“Initial evidence suggested that the vehicle had a malfunctioning brake system.”

No one was injured but the driver, a 66-year-old man, was fined $552 for “improper brake performance.” Several sailings were delayed so the vehicle could be removed and the vessel could be inspected, according to Mounties.
