Rainfall warning issued on B.C.’s South Coast

Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a rainfall warning for parts of Metro Vancouver as a series of frontal systems approach the region.

Forecasters are warning parts of B.C.’s South Coast are in for periods of heavy rain over the coming days.

Environment and Climate Change Canada said a series of frontal systems will pass over the region between Wednesday and Friday, delivering up to 12 centimetres of rain to some areas of Metro Vancouver.

“Rain will become heavy this evening,” the weather agency said in a Code Yellow warning Wednesday morning. “Rain will ease Thursday morning, then intensify again Thursday evening.”

The warning is in effect for Vancouver, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, Coquitlam and Maple Ridge.

Forecasters expect the rain will taper off to a few showers by Friday afternoon, but that there could be water pooling on roads and in low-lying areas before the storms pass.
