‘Most-wanted’: Suspect in Winnipeg murder arrested in B.C., police say

A murder suspect considered one of Canada’s “most-wanted” has been arrested in B.C.’s Lower Mainland, police announced Friday.

The Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of B.C. said officers located Chad Jason Dandan—who was sought in connection with a 2024 homicide in Winnipeg—while conducting proactive patrols last week.

“The suspect took deliberate steps to avoid being recognized, but our officers’ training and vigilance led to his arrest,” Sgt. Sarbjit K. Sangha of the CFSEU said in a statement.

“This is a strong example of the work our members do every day to enhance public safety.”

Dandan was ranked seventh among Canada’s most-wanted suspects by the BOLO Program.

Since his arrest, Dandan has been transported to Winnipeg, where he remains in custody pending “the next steps in the judicial process,” the CFSEU said.

Authorities previously said the suspect was wanted for first-degree murder, kidnapping and extortion in connection with the death of Ontario man Zeyad Vifan Shammo.

The victim was found dead at a home on Winnipeg’s Bristol Avenue in September 2024, several days after he was reported missing.

Two other suspects were also charged in Shammo’s killing.
