Men questioned after woman found naked in locked Wind Mobile store

Police are questioning two men who were found inside a locked Wind Mobile store in downtown Vancouver with a naked woman Friday afternoon.

Officers received a report of suspicious activity at the Robson Street business around noon, and arrived to find an unclothed woman and a pair of men inside.

“Nobody appeared to be in distress but obviously a lot of red flags for us,” Const. Brian Montague said.

“The individuals inside were not cooperative, didn’t want to open the door, didn’t want to come to the back door.”

Emergency Response Team members and negotiators were called to the scene, and eventually convinced the men inside to open the store about an hour later. Both were placed in handcuffs.

Before that happened, police said they contacted a representative of the business, who told them the store should be empty.

“However, when we did take people into custody, he was one of the people inside the store at the time,” Montague said.

The woman didn’t appear to be injured but was taken to hospital to be examined. Montague said she wasn’t cooperative either, but appeared to be under the influence of something.

“We don’t know what we have here. It’s possible we’re dealing with a sexual assault, but again we don’t know if a crime has taken place,” he said.

Heavily armed police surrounded the Wind Mobile during the incident, which Montague said was an appropriate response given the concerning but limited information that had been received.
