A man who allegedly tried fleeing from police after being found unconscious in his car over the weekend in Surrey, B.C., has been charged, authorities announced Tuesday. The Surrey Police Service said officers found the man “slumped over” in the vehicle—which was stopped in the middle of the road near 18 Avenue and 138 Street—at around 1:30 a.m. Sunday. “Officers were concerned the driver needed medical attention and as officers tried to take him into custody, the man regained consciousness and tried to start the vehicle and drive away,” the department said in a news release. Police vehicles prevented the driver from leaving, authorities said. Officers instead arrested the man behind the wheel, and allegedly found an unloaded gun, ammunition and three knives in the vehicle. Christopher Joseph Allan Faucher, 33, has since been charged with a number of offences, including careless transport of a firearm or ammunition, possession of an unloaded prohibited or restricted firearm with accessible ammunition without a licence, occupying a vehicle knowing there was a prohibited or restricted firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, obstruction of a peace officer, and failing to comply with conditions of an undertaking. He remained in custody Tuesday morning pending a bail hearing, authorities said.
