If you are driving somewhere this long weekend, it’s best to fill up your gas tanks today. “Today is probably the best day we’re going to get at 182.9 (cents per litre) in the GTA,” says Dan McTeague, the president of Canadians for Affordable Energy. “You might find some discounts in the smaller communities on your destinations if you happen to be heading to cottage country.” He tells CP24 that gas will rise to $1.83 a litre on Saturday and then $1.87 per litre on Sunday, a price that drivers in the GTA have not seen since the middle of May. McTeague says he expects the price of gas will then hold until Thursday. He believes gas prices will drop about seven cents a litre in the coming weeks when supply switches from the summer blend to the winter blend. McTeague says it’s because the United States has approved the early sale of winter blend gasoline to curb prices. As for diesel, prices will drop from $2.43 per litre on Thursday to $2.36 a litre on Sunday, he says. “That could be sort of a something we envy come the cold winter months when it could get a lot closer to $2.75, maybe even $2.80 a litre in Toronto, $3 a litre across Canada,” McTeague adds. He notes that drivers are seeing unprecedented diesel prices because it is in very short supply around the world amid the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and Russia.
