Man arrested after reports of ‘unwanted physical contact’ on Kamloops trails, B.C. RCMP say

A man has been arrested following multiple reports involving “unwanted physical contact” on hiking trails in Kamloops, B.C., this month, according to the RCMP.

Authorities said they received reports of concerning behaviour on the Peterson Creek trail system on Jan. 3 and Jan. 13.

A man allegedly had “approached women on the trail, attempted to engage them in conversation, and initiated unsolicited physical contact,” Kamloops RCMP said in a news release Friday.

Authorities have not shared any further details on the nature of the physical contact, but said no injuries were reported.

Kamloops RCMP identified and arrested a 52-year-old man Thursday. He has since been released without charges, but authorities said their investigation remains active, and that they are preparing a report for prosecutors.

The man was released under strict conditions, including “restrictions related to contacting the complainants and attending specific public areas,” the RCMP said.

“Police encourage members of the public to stay aware of their surroundings and to trust their instincts in everyday situations,” the detachment said.

“Anyone who experiences or witnesses behaviour that feels concerning or out of the ordinary is encouraged to contact police. Reporting these incidents helps support ongoing efforts to maintain community safety.”

Authorities asked anyone who witnessed the incidents or has had a similar interaction in the area to contact the Kamloops RCMP.
