Former UN gang associates charged with drug trafficking, firearms possession

Two gang associates of the late UN gang leaders Sukh Dhak and Sandip Duhre have been charged with drug trafficking and firearms offences.

Zemaan Chaudhry, 26, of Surrey was charged with seven counts of possession of drugs for the purposes of trafficking, one count of possession of a prohibited firearm, and for breaching a court order prohibiting him from possessing a firearm.

Twenty-one year-old Alvinder Singh Sekhon, also of Surrey, has been charged with seven counts of possession for the purposes of trafficking, possession of a prohibited firearm, and possession of a firearm without a license.

The charges follow a drug investigation by the provincial Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit in the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island that began in May 2013. Sekhon and Chaudhry were arrested June 25, 2013 and searches of their alleged Surrey “stash houses” turned up large quantities of illegal drugs, GPS trackers, cell phone jammers, and approximately $32,000.

In a release from the CFSEU, police say they believe the two men had allegedly taken control of drug lines previously held by Dhak and another deceased gangster Manjinder Hairan.

“Chaudhry has long-standing ties to the former Dhak/Duhre/UN Gang alliance and is believed to have a prevalent role in the ongoing Lower Mainland gang conflict,” the release stated.

Both Chaudhry and Sekhon are scheduled to appear in Surrey Provincial Court on Feb. 6.
