Police say a 40-year-old man was charged with assault on Tuesday morning, days after an elderly woman was pushed to the ground in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. According to the Vancouver Police Department, officers saw the man push an 86-year-old woman who was using a walker for mobility to the ground on Saturday afternoon on Hastings Street, near Columbia Street. The woman suffered a cut to her forehead and was attended to by B.C. Emergency Health Services before being transported to hospital. Police say she is expected to recover. Const. Darren Wong told CTV News that police believe this to be a random stranger assault. The VPD said 40-year-old Felix Harris was charged with one count of assault. Online court records show that Harris, born in 1986, remains in custody.
