Alberta’s internet child exploitation team has charged a 51-year-old man from Sherwood Park in connection with child sexual abuse materials made with artificial intelligence. Christopher Kalbfleisch was arrested on Friday for one charge that covers “numerous instances,” according to Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT). Investigators believe there are more victims. September was Kalbfleisch’s second arrest – he was originally charged with possessing, accessing and transmitting child sexual abuse materials on June 25 after reports that he was distributing the material online. Kalbfleisch is accused of using AI applications to sexualize photos and videos of victims known to him. He allegedly “took advantage of open social media accounts and used posted photos as his source of material to alter,” according to an ALERT media release. He was released from custody on court-imposed conditions, including not to have any communication with anyone under the age of 16 and to not attend public schools, playgrounds or public libraries. The investigation is ongoing as officials attempt to identify more victims. Anyone with information is asked to call local police or Crime Stoppers.
