Crash on Highway 1 in Abbotsford leaves truck driver with minor injuries

A frightening crash between a truck and passenger vehicle on Highway 1 through Abbotsford was caught on dash-cam video.

A semi-truck that crashed after it was hit by an out-of-control vehicle on Highway 1 in Abbotsford sustained significant damage—but the driver escaped with minor injuries, according the authorities.

Officers were called to the scene near the Peardonville exit just before 4:40 p.m. for reports “passenger vehicle” had crashed into the transport truck, the Abbotsford Police Department said in a statement.

“The investigation determined that the passenger vehicle was travelling eastbound in the left lane when it lost control and collided with a semi‑truck travelling in the right lane,” police said.

“The force of the collision caused the semi‑truck to leave the roadway on the right side, where it struck a tree.”

The driver of the car was uninjured, both drivers are co-operating with police, and speed and alcohol have been ruled out as causes.

The semi had to be unloaded by hand before it was towed, and it took several hours to clear the scene.
