Bomb disposal unit called to apartment in Richmond, B.C.

An RCMP explosives disposal unit has been dispatched to Richmond, B.C., after police received a report of an explosive device inside an apartment building.

Mounties are asking the public to avoid the area around the 5100 block of Brighouse Way.

The Richmond RCMP say they received the report of “a possible ordnance” inside the building shortly after 12:15 p.m. Monday.

“Richmond RCMP have engaged the assistance of the B.C. RCMP Explosives Disposal Unit,” the detachment said in a brief statement, adding the area around the building has been contained.

“Richmond RCMP General Investigation Section have conduct of this active and ongoing investigation,” the statement said.

“No further information will be provided at this time.”
