A search warrant was executed at a “problem residence” in Kelowna earlier in July, resulting in the arrest of a person wanted B.C.-wide and a variety of drugs and weapons being seized, according to RCMP. Police said the investigation began when community members reported concerns about public safety in the neighbourhood in early July, prompting officers to look into a residence in a seniors’ housing complex on Jones Street, in the city’s north end. “The occupants of the unit were contributing to significant public safety concerns and were not complying with City of Kelowna property standards,” Kelowna RCMP said, in a statement issued Tuesday. “Investigators also observed a high volume of foot traffic entering and leaving the residence.” Officers executed the search warrant and entered the home on July 18, arresting the person wanted on an outstanding B.C.-wide warrant, and finding and seizing a 12-gauge pump action shotgun, among other weapons, and “quantities of controlled substances,” police said. Mounties said their investigation remains ongoing. The city is working to deal with deficiencies and bylaw violations on the property, police added.
