Arrests made, suspect outstanding in copper thefts across Halton region: police

Halton police have made several arrests and are searching for an additional suspect following an investigation into copper thefts across Milton and Halton Hills last year.

In a release on Friday, police said over 40 incidents of copper thefts were reported in 2025.

“These thefts involved the suspects cutting down telecommunication cable lines, salvaging the copper and then selling it for profit,” investigators said.

Detectives launched an investigation into a “network of individuals suspected to be involved in these crimes” in January of this year.

They said on Jan. 30, at approximately 10:40 p.m., officers responded to a report of copper wire theft in the area of Canyon Road and Campbell Avenue in Milton, where two suspects were arrested and charged.

The next day, on Jan. 31, police executed search warrants on two vehicles and two residences in Guelph and Erin, where they found tools, copper wire, and electronic devices. A third suspect was also arrested and taken into custody.

Brendan Boyd, 36, of Guelph, Benjamin Moffatt, 43, of Guelph, and Dawna Mitchell, 36, of Erin, are all facing various charges related to theft and possession of property obtained by crime. None of the charges have been tested in court.

Halton police are still searching for a fourth suspect.

Christopher Lennon, 29, of Halton Hills, is wanted for possession of property obtained by crime - under $5000 and possession of property obtained by crime - trafficking.
