Possible measles exposure at Oshawa area urgent care, emergency waiting room

Durham health officials are warning about potential measles exposure after a positive case was identified in the region.

The Durham Region Health Department said they received confirmation of the case in a local, unimmunized child who visited two locations in Oshawa in February and March.

The department said it is investigating and following up directly with known contacts in Durham Region who may have been exposed but cautions that members of the public may have also been exposed in the following locations:

Individuals who believe they may have been exposed are advised to monitor for signs and symptoms of measles.

The Health Department also advises confirming if you or your family members have two doses of the measles vaccine and that if symptoms develop, you do not attend work or school.

The positive case is the third reported incident of measles exposure in the Greater Toronto Area this week.

On Wednesday, both Toronto Public Health and York Region Public Health each reported a confirmed case of measles that was acquired outside of Canada.

Public Health Ontario has reported five measles cases in the province as of March 3.
