Durham police to provide update on murder of 30-year-old man killed outside Oshawa pawn shop 2 years ago

Michael Nigris, 30, of Oshawa is that city's latest murder victim.

Police in Durham Region will be providing an update on the homicide investigation for Michael Nigris this week.

The 30-year-old Oshawa resident was fatally shot in a plaza parking lot outside a Cash Connections Oshawa store, near King Street West and Park Road South, where he worked, on March 30, 2023.

Life-saving measures were performed but Nigris died of his injuries at the scene, police said at the time.

On Wednesday at 10 a.m., Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) along with Durham Regional Crime Stoppers will hold a media conference at Durham Regional Headquarters in Whitby. Det. Sgt. Erik Mamers, of the Homicide Unit, will be providing further information about the investigation.

2 suspects identified in Nigris’ murder

At the time of Nigris’ murder, investigators said they were searching for one suspect in connection with the homicide and had located their vehicle nearby.

They said officers had also conducted an evidence search related to the homicide at nearby Dundee Park at Waverly Street North and Dundee Avenue.

Several months later, police identified a second suspect, whom they described as a male with short dreadlocks and glasses. He wore a black hooded sweatshirt with ‘Champion’ written in white on the front, black pants, black running shoes.

The first suspect is described by police as a male, who was last seen wearing a black surgical mask, a dark hooded sweatshirt with a Puma emblem on the front, black Puma brand jogging pants, and black Air Force One running shoes.

Police said both suspects have connections to Toronto’s Keele Street and Lawrence Avenue West area.
