Toronto man charged after police seize more than $100K in drugs, stolen goods

Toronto police say they have charged a man after officers seized more than $100,000 worth of drugs and stolen goods during an investigation in the city’s west end dubbed “Project Fade.”

In a news release, investigators from 13 Division’s Major Crime Unit say they launched an investigation into alleged trafficking near the area of Eglinton Avenue West and Oakwood Avenue.

After what police describe as a “lengthy investigation,” on Tuesday, officers executed a search warrant at a business they believe is linked to the suspect.

When officials arrived, they seized fentanyl, cocaine, crack cocaine, marijuana, hash, a quantity of stolen liquor, and other stolen items.

The total estimated street value of the drugs is $105,378.

Michael Nelson, 54, of Toronto, has been charged with multiple counts of drug possession and trafficking, possession for the purpose of selling under the Cannabis Act, and possession of property obtained by crime.

None of the charges have been tested in court but police say Nelson is scheduled to appear next month on Oct. 23.
