Streetcar driver taken to hospital after being struck by vehicle downtown

A TTC streetcar driver has been transported to hospital after he was struck by a vehicle in Toronto’s Entertainment District.

It happened on Adelaide Street, just east of Spadina Avenue, shortly before 10:15 a.m.

Toronto police said the operator was struck by a vehicle while outside their streetcar, near the Charlotte Street loop. It wasn’t immediately clear why the driver stepped outside the streetcar.

Toronto Paramedic Services transported him to hospital after he was struck. The extent of his injuries was not immediately clear.

The driver of the other vehicle remained at the scene.

Adelaide Street was completely closed down east of Spadina as police investigated, but the road has since reopened.

The TTC referred questions about the incident to Toronto police.
