Stanley Mission man charged after allegedly pointing weapon at RCMP

A 25-year-old man is facing multiple charges after Stanley Mission RCMP responded to a report of an intoxicated and aggressive individual at a residence Thursday afternoon.

RCMP say they were called to the home at around 2:45 p.m. on Jan. 8 after receiving a report of a male acting aggressively. Officers were told the man was hiding in a crawl space and may be in possession of a firearm.

Police entered a room containing the crawl space hatch and located the suspect in a corner of the room holding what appeared to be a firearm. RCMP say the weapon was pointed at an officer but was dropped after verbal commands were given. The firearm was determined to be a pellet rifle.

Another pellet rifle and two swords that were also located and seized in the crawl space. Along with an assault-style BB gun, axe and large knife that were seized from the home as part of the investigation.

A conducted energy weapon, or taser, was deployed after the man resisted arrest and attempted to escape police custody. He was assessed by medical personnel as a precaution and then returned to police custody.

Police say multiple children and adults were inside the residence at the time of the incident. No injuries were reported and no officers were hurt.

The man is charged with a total of six counts. They include assaulting a police officer, resisting a peace officer, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, using a firearm in the commission of an offence and two counts of possessing weapons contrary to a court order.

He appeared in La Ronge Provincial Court on Jan. 9.
