The Saskatoon Berries are officially the best team in the Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL). The Berries crushed the Sylvan Lake Gulls 11-1 Sunday in Saskatoon to sweep the best-of-three series, earning the Berries their first WCBL title. A total of 2,579 fans packed Cairns Field to watch the Berries win the title. Ethan Murdoch led the way for Saskatoon in the deciding game with a homerun and two RBIs. Saskatoon defeated the reigning champion Regina Red Sox in the first round of the playoffs, before sweeping the Moose Jaw Miller Express in the second round. This is Saskatoon’s third season in the WCBL, Canada’s top summer collegiate baseball league. Berries pitcher Wesley Shackelford was named WCBL Postseason MVP.
