Saskatchewan police impound semi covered in duct tape

A commercial semi was pulled off Saskatchewan roads over the weekend, with the Corman Park Police Service calling it a “dangerously defective vehicle.”

In a press release Monday, the service says both sides of the semi cab had been smashed out and covered with duct tape, obstructing the driver’s ability to see the road and other drivers.

“This level of disregard for public safety on the part of a professional driver and a professional trucking company is particularly distressing,” Chief Rob Duttchen said in the update.

“Commercial operators are entrusted with operating large, heavy vehicles on our highways, and they have a heightened responsibility to ensure that their equipment is safe and that they can see clearly in all directions.”

The windshield was also severely damaged, with fractures and marks blocking the view. The service says the main exterior mirror was also shattered and held in place with duct tape.

The truck had been reported by an off-duty RCMP member and stopped Sunday on Highway 11 in the RM of Corman Park. It was towed and taken out of service.

The driver was issued citations under the Traffic Safety Act.
