Extreme cold warning grips much of Saskatchewan

According to a weather summary provided by Environment Canada, some areas of the province saw more than 50 centimetres of snow during this week’s storm.

A stretch of extreme cold is settling over central and southern Saskatchewan following Wednesday’s snowfall.

Environment Canada issued a cold warning early Thursday, saying extreme cold with wind chills near or below minus 40 is expected through the rest of the week.

The weather agency says frostbite can develop within minutes in these conditions.

Temperatures will briefly improve during the day in some regions, but the extreme cold is expected to return overnight.

Communities impacted include Saskatoon, North Battleford, Prince Albert, Humboldt, Regina, Moose Jaw, Swift Current, Kindersley and Yorkton.

Environment Canada says the extreme cold puts everyone at risk and advises residents to keep emergency supplies in their vehicles.
