Underground strip club must comply with bylaws: City of Regina

Paperwork piles up for strip club Paperwork and permits have closed an underground strip club indefinitely. Wayne Mantyka reports.

An underground strip club that has been operating in east Regina for the past few months has been forced to shut its doors — for now.

Regina 151 says it is working with the city to comply with paperwork and permits.

“We’ve been in contact with the owner and we have expressed with them the need to comply with our bylaws,” Mayor Michael Fougere told reporters at the grand re-opening of the College Building on Friday morning.

The members-only club is located in an industrial area, and the city said in September that it was looking into whether it was violating any zoning bylaws by operating in that area.

“We’ve been telling them what they’ve got to do to comply and Liquor and Gaming has done that as well,” Fougere said.

The Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority said it reached out to Regina 151 about liquor permitting requirements after learning the business was providing alcohol to customers. SLGA says its regulatory authority only extends to businesses holding a permit.

“However, it’s not unusual for the SLGA to educate individuals or businesses that may be operating without a liquor permit about provincial requirements under the Alcohol and Gaming Regulation Act,” the SLGA said in a statement to CTV News.

The mayor was unable to confirm if the business has completely shut down. In a Facebook post, the club said it won’t be holding any events for at least one month while it works through paperwork.

“We are going to cooperate and provide them what they need and will update everyone when we know anything new and will update everyone when we know anything new,” the post said.

The city says talks are ongoing with the club.
