Team Campbell loss to Ontario crushes Scotties hopes for Saskatchewan

A Draw 15 loss Wednesday night to Team Ontario has ended Saskatchewan’s chance at making the playoffs at the 2026 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Mississauga, Ont.

Led by skip Jolene Campbell, Saskatchewan was in a must-win situation heading into their evening matchup against Ontario’s Hailey Armstrong.

A crucial steal of one by Armstrong in the 7th end put Campbell behind as the match drew to a close.

Down two with the hammer in the final end, Saskatchewan needed a difficult triple with the last rock just to tie and force an extra.

Campbell would miss and give up the steal of two to lose 8-4, officially eliminating Saskatchewan from playoff contention.

Saskatchewan will conclude their tournament with a round robin finale against Manitoba’s Kaitlyn Lawes Thursday.

Pool A standings are still yet to be decided.

Lawes clinched the top spot atop the pool with a win over the Northwest Territories Wednesday evening, giving Team Canada’s Kerri Einarson second.

Fighting for the third and final playoff spot in the pool are Ontario and Nova Scotia. The two teams have equal 5-2 records and close out round robin play against each other with the winner moving to the knockout stage.

In the other pool, all three teams who will move on to Friday’s playoffs are decided.

Beth Peterson out of Manitoba, Christina Black from Nova Scotia and Alberta’s Selena Sturmay will each move on.

The only factor not final, is the seeding.

Round robin play concludes Thursday ahead of Friday’s playoffs. The final will be played Sunday.

Saskatchewan’s elimination extends a Scotties’ championship drought to 16 years. The last time a team from the province won a national women’s championship was 2011.
