Riders QB Harris honoured with Grey Cup victory painting

Trevor Harris was celebrated at the Legislative Building with an oil painting capturing his magical Grey Cup victory. Wayne Mantyka has the story.

Saskatchewan Roughriders quarterback Trevor Harris got chills as he received a special gift Tuesday: an oil painting capturing Sunday night’s Grey Cup-winning moment.

The artwork was created by Regina artist Belinda Kriek, who worked under a tight deadline to capture the iconic moment.

“I think that’s one of the best moments you want to capture as an artist,” Kriek said.

The presentation took place during the Riders’ visit to the premier’s office at the Legislative Building, where the team also had fun sitting around the cabinet table and trying on the Speaker’s hat. The players appreciated the red-carpet treatment.

“Having us in this building just speaks volumes about what this meant for the province,” linebacker Jameer Thurman said. “I think it goes a long way in showing that everybody supported us.”

Harris said he’s grateful for the gift and is already planning where to display it, joking that it might look perfect in his basement.

“It was absolutely unbelievable, and I’m just kind of mesmerized by everything that’s gone on,” Harris said.
