Regina fire crews respond to large blaze on Victoria Ave

An otherwise calm night was harshly interrupted in Regina on Monday, as fire crews battled a large blaze near the city’s downtown.

Crews responded to the 1500 block of Victoria Avenue Monday night for a large fire. In a post to social media, the fire service said multiple structures were affected by the blaze.

No injuries were reported.

As of 10:18 p.m. on Monday, crews were still working to control the blaze. In its post, the fire service asked residents to avoid the area as crews continued to work.

SaskPower reported that its personnel were on scene of a fire in Regina at 9:51 p.m.

In the post to social media, SaskPower said it was unable to provide a restoration time for power in the area. Affected areas included the Regina General Hospital, Broders Annex, the warehouse district and Dewdney Place.

Photos from the scene show a large pillar of smoke and fire rising from the scene, which appears to be 1516 Victoria Avenue.

Firefighters were seen spraying down the neighbouring houses to the fire site.

On Tuesday, Acting Chief of the Regina Police Service (RPS) Lorilee Davies, told CTV News the investigation is still in its early stages.

“We will work closely with Regina Fire and Protective Services and their investigators. Typically, things are too hot right afterwards for them to be able to go in and figure out causes and that type of thing,” she said.

“But, we’ll work closely with them to figure out what next steps look like, and if what the cause of the fire was, all of those types of things. [It’s] just too early to tell.”
