Pastuch fraud case adjourned to 2026

Aleana Pastuch has requested to reopen her trial for financial fraud.

Alena Pastuch will have to wait till 2026 to hear if her guilty plea will be declared null and if she’ll be granted a new trial in her now multi-year fraud case.

During an appearance at Court of King’s Bench in Regina on Friday, Justice Catherine Dawson adjourned Pastuch’s matter until Jan. 20, 2026.

Pastuch was accused of embezzling more than $4 million in an investment scheme which spanned over seven years, beginning in 2006.

In June of 2019 she was convicted on charges of fraud, theft, and money laundering following a trial which saw her represent herself.

She appealed the decision and in October of 2022, Saskatchewan’s Court of Appeal ordered a new trial, finding that Pastuch shouldn’t have had to represent herself.

The new trial never went ahead, and Pastuch entered a guilty plea in September 2024 after a joint submission from the Crown and defence outlined a sentence of three years.

Sentencing was supposed to begin in March. However, the process was delayed due to issues with Pastuch’s legal representation.

Pastuch hopes to have her previous guilty plea declared “null” and secure a new trial, this time by jury.
