Driver accused of speeding at twice the limit in North Bay

Police in North Bay say a driver was caught on May 24 travelling at 81 km/h in a 40 km/h zone.

Police made the traffic stop early in the morning in the 1100 block of Lakeshore Drive in a community safety zone.

The driver was charged with stunt driving, the fifth person charged with the offence in North Bay this year.

The vehicle was impounded for 14 days and their driver’s licence was suspended for 30 days.

“Stunt driving and street racing put everyone at risk -- especially in community safety zones,” police said.

If convicted, stunt drivers can be fined up to $10,000 and receive six demerit points.

In addition, offenders have to take a mandatory driver improvement course upon conviction and could face a long-term licence suspension.
