Macklin’s Cole Reschny named to Canada’s World Junior training camp roster

Saskatchewan’s sole representative at Team Canada’s World Juniors training camp, Cole Reschny, is looking to earn his spot

Cole Reschny of Macklin has been named to Team Canada’s national junior team training camp roster.

Reschny is Saskatchewan’s lone representative on the preliminary roster. He has previous Hockey Canada experience at the 2025 U18 Men’s World Championship and 2024 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, both tournaments Canada won.

Since moving south of the border to play NCAA hockey this past offseason, the North Dakota Fighting Hawk has 18 points (2G, 16A) in 16 games.

He spent each of the previous two seasons with the Western Hockey League’s Victoria Royals, collecting 48 goals, 104 assists, 152 points in 127 games.

Prior to joining the Royals, Reschny spent the 2022-23 season with the Saskatoon Blazers of the Sask. Male U18 AAA Hockey League.

The initial roster, which includes three goaltenders, nine defencemen and 15 forwards, was selected by National Junior Team general manager, and former Regina Pats’ GM, Alan Millar.

“This group represents the very best of Canadian junior hockey — skill, speed, sense, character and a strong commitment to team success and the pride in representing Canada at this prestigious world championship,” Millar said in a media release Monday. “Our staff has worked tirelessly to identify a roster that embodies the identity we want Canada to play, and we’re confident these athletes are ready for the challenge ahead.”

“This process and team build came with many difficult decisions. We are confident in this group,” Millar said.

Canada’s National Junior Team will host training camp from Dec. 13-22 in Niagara Falls, Ont.

It will also face off against Sweden on Dec. 17 and 20 in Kitchener and London, Ont., before taking on Denmark on Dec. 23 in Mankato, MN, in pre-tournament action.

The 2026 IIHF World Junior Championship begins on Boxing Day with four games, which includes Canada taking on Czechia at 7:30 p.m. SK time on TSN.
