Saskatchewan RCMP operators answered 422,378 calls in 2025, an increase of 15 per cent compared to 2024. Those calls ranged from serious incidents to misdials, false alarms, and some that were downright bizarre.

Each year, the Saskatchewan RCMP shares the top calls its operators received over the past year that simply “missed the mark.”

From broken laundry day rules to an abandoned shopping cart, here are the strangest top 10 calls to RCMP in 2025.

10. Someone called to complain they were out of toilet paper.

9. A caller was upset because they had to drive their expensive vehicle through a construction zone.

8. Someone said they called 911 because the TV show they were watching accidentally triggered their phone to place the call.

7. Someone called to complain that someone left a shopping cart in their driveway.

6. Someone called looking for a phone number for a taxi service.

5. A caller was concerned about their neighbours not following the rules of laundry day.

4. Someone called to complain that a restaurant was taking too long to make their lunch.

3. Dispatchers received a call from someone complaining about their family member’s loud snoring keeping them awake.

2. Someone called because their friend cooked their pork chop without permission.

1. Someone called saying they had lost their phone and was wondering if an officer could give the phone a call so they could hear it.

“We release our annual list to remind people that misusing 911 can delay emergency responders from reaching someone in a life-threatening situation,” Jocelyn James, manager of the Saskatchewan RCMP Operational Communication Centre, said in a news release.

“Every moment that we’re spending speaking with someone who is complaining about their family member’s loud snoring is a moment that could have been used helping someone in a serious emergency.”

The Saskatchewan RCMP reminds residents that the penalty for misusing 911 is a summary offence with fines up to $2,000.
