Recovery efforts of a plane that crashed in Kananaskis Country last Saturday continue to be put on hold due to bad weather. Last Saturday, RCMP said they received a call about a crash in the Mount McDougall area shortly after 9 a.m. Two people onboard the flight died at the scene. A Transportation Safety Board spokesperson said in an email to CTV News that the victim’s identities weren’t being released yet. “The aircraft was a Cirrus SR22. It departed 5 Sept 2026 on an instrument flight from Springbank, AB, to Campbell River, BC. The aircraft departed just after 8:50am MT and impacted terrain approximately 30 nm WSW of the airport at approximately 09:15 MT. “Given the terrain in the area, and the condition of the aircraft wreckage, TSB investigators will not be deploying to the site at this time. “We are however coordinating in the recovery efforts, and we will be examining the wreckage once it has been retrieved from the mountain side. “The identities of individuals involved is considered protected information under the Canadian Transportation Accident Investigation and Safety Board Act. We will not confirm who was on board the flight.” A spokesperson added that one attempt was made Thursday to recover the wreckage but bad weather forced them to call it off. “Another attempt is going to be made in the coming days, weather permitting, and the wreckage will be transported to the TSB facility in Edmonton once retrieved.”
