The double murder retrial of Dillon Whitehawk is nearing its conclusion as the Crown has now closed its case. Whitehawk is currently on trial for the 2019 shooting deaths of Keenan Toto and Jordan Denton. The final witness who cannot be named due to a publication ban, testified they were in both vehicles at the time of the shootings. The witness claimed Whitehawk was the shooter in both instances. In addition, the witness said each time, the vehicle was filled with Indian Mafia gang members looking for trouble. Toto was killed on the 1200 block of Robinson Street in the early hours of Dec. 1, 2019. The witness said the loud gunfire when the lone shot was fired hurt their ears. Soon after the shooting, the car was pulled over and Whitehawk discarded his clothing. From their understanding, there was no plans for a shooting, and it was unexpected. During cross examination from the defense, the witness was walked through transcripts from police interviews they gave in Jan. 2020. In the interview, the witness said they did not know who shot Denton or Toto. The witness agreed to what they had said in the transcripts. Over 25 witnesses have testified during the retrial. Video footage and tape recordings have also been played in court, including video showing one of the shootings. The jury will be back in court Friday morning, with closing arguments to be delivered in the coming days.
