A call reporting a man destroying property kicked off a sequence of events that ended with 14 charges being laid and a series of weapons being seized. On the evening of Aug. 8, Regina police officers were called to the 100 block of Dorothy Street for report of an intoxicated person damaging property. Police arrived and witnessed the suspect driving away from the scene. Officers stopped the vehicle and arrested the 48-year-old driver for impaired driving. A knife reportedly fell from the man’s lap as he was taken into custody. Police also noted the man repeatedly uttered threats of death against a man he knew. A further investigation led officers to execute a search warrant at a home on the 700 block of McIntosh Street. A series of weapons were seized, including one loaded shotgun, five unloaded non-restricted rifles, one prohibited assault rifle, two bb guns and ammunition. Police noted two of the rifles and the loaded shotgun were stored without trigger locks. The man was charged with a total of 14 counts, including impaired operation of a motor vehicle, uttering threats, breaking and entering, exceeding 80 milligrams of alcohol within two hours of operating a vehicle, possessing a weapon and nine firearms related counts. The accused made his first appearance in Regina Provincial Court on Monday.
