Country Corner Donuts fire accidental, investigators find

No foul play is suspected in relation to a fire that damaged Country Corner Donuts earlier this week.

Regina Fire and Protective Services responded to the commercial building fire at 1470 Broad Street at approximately 5 a.m. on Jan. 12.

According to the city, firefighters arrived at the scene as the business’s owner, Vuong Pham, was attempting to put out the flames that had enveloped part of the establishment.

The flames were quickly brought under control by fire crews. However, the business sustained significant smoke damage, whereas the fire damage was confined to where the blaze began.

Fire investigators, working with the Technical Safety Authority Saskatchewan, or TSASK, determined the cause to be accidental.

The failure of a commercial appliance was found to be the cause of the fire.

No injuries were reported.

Speaking with CTV News on Tuesday, Pham expressed his thanks as residents reached to share kind words and support.

“Everybody’s all here. Some just say, ‘Sorry,’ some hug me, and some shake my hand,” he said.

Country Corner Donuts has been a staple on the corner of Dewdney Avenue and Broad Street since 1989.

“This place raised my family,” Pham added. “We did not get rich from it, but at least we have comfortable living and children in our life. That’s why I want to stay here and not go anywhere.”
