The National Arts Centre has announced world-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma is returning to Ottawa in 2027 for a one-night only concert. The concert will take place at the NAC’s Southam Hall on May 18, 2027. Incoming NAC Orchestra Music Director John Storgårds will conduct. The NAC says this will be Storgårds’s first-ever performance with Yo-Yo Ma, who will perform Antonín Dvořák’s evocative Cello Concerto. “It is a profound honour for the NAC Orchestra and me to share the stage with the incomparable Yo-Yo Ma,” Storgårds said in a news release. “We look forward to welcoming audiences to what promises to be an unforgettable evening with one of the most extraordinary artists of our time.” Ma last appeared at the NAC in 2009. The 70-year-old has recorded more than 120 albums, including 20 Grammy Award winners, and has received numerous recognitions, such as the Avery Fisher Prize, the National Medal of the Arts, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the Kennedy Center Honors, the Polar Music Prize, and the Birgit Nilsson Prize. NAC donors and NAC Orchestra subscribers will be able to purchase tickets during a pre-sale on July 9. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on July 15.
