A Barrie man accused of exploiting a woman in the sex trade has been arrested for the second time in as many weeks and remains behind bars pending a bail hearing. Alleged sex trafficker Michael Brocklebank, 50, will be spending at least the next six days in jail after two more complainants came forward to police with allegations they were being sexually exploited by Brocklebank. According to court documents obtained by CTV News, the accused is already facing allegations that he was selling a woman in the sex trade, was arrested in late August, and was charged with trafficking a person, materially benefitting from, advertising and procuring a person for sexual services. Barrie Police confirmed the investigation into Brocklebank began in June when police received a tip that he was recruiting females to provide sexual services out of his home, leading to a search warrant being executed at a home in Springwater Township on Aug. 12. Investigators revealed online ads for sexual services were then linked to Brocklebank, who was arrested on Aug. 30 in Mississauga and released from custody. Police published the accused’s name and photo believing there may have been more victims out there. He is now accused of six more historical sex trafficking charges involving two more women. According to court records, the latest charges stem from incidents alleged to have taken place in December 2017 and 2024. The identities of all three complainants are protected by a publication ban. Brocklebank is ordered not to communicate with the complainants along with two other women. Brocklebank, who had been out on bail until Tuesday afternoon, was supposed to make his first court appearance in a week on the earlier charges. He now awaits a bail hearing as the Crown argues he should remain in jail. The allegations against him have not been tested in court.
