A 44-year-old North Dakota man has been charged with multiple offences after he fled a border crossing into Manitoba over the weekend. According to a news release from RCMP, officers in Emerson were alerted by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) about a man who fled the Emerson port of entry at 6:23 p.m. Saturday. Mounties said the man entered Canada from North Dakota and was directed to secondary screening when he fled at a high speed. Multiple RCMP officers immediately responded to Highway 75 to try and stop the vehicle, including an attempt to pull it over near Morris which was unsuccessful. Mounties then tried to stop the vehicle at the intersection of Highway 75 and PR 210 by blocking the highway, but the suspect vehicle moved around the police cars, drove through the ditch, nearly hit an officer and continued north on Highway 75. The vehicle was eventually stopped on highway 75 and the driver arrested. A loaded handgun was found in the front passenger seat and different types of ammunition was seized from the vehicle. The suspect has been charged with multiple offences, including dangerous operation of a vehicle, flight from police, assaulting a peace officer with a weapon and multiple firearms-related charges. He was detained in custody. None of the charges have been proven in court. RCMP continue to investigate.
