Ontario Provincial Police are seeking public assistance in identifying a suspect believed to be involved in a stabbing in Deep River, Ont. that left a person with serious injuries one week ago. Police officers responded to reports of a “serious assault” in the area of McElligott Drive at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 9. One person was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to police. A shelter-in-place was in effect for several hours that night and into the next day as police investigated the incident. No arrests have been made and few details have been released about the circumstances that led to the assault. On Wednesday, OPP said in a news release the individual responsible remains outstanding and are asking for public assistance in locating him. The suspect is described as a man, white or light skinned, tall, thin, and wearing light-coloured pants and a dark-coloured hoodie. OPP say not to approach him and to contact police if seen. “We recognize the impact this serious incident may have on those involved and on the broader community,” OPP say. Police add they received information that an individual wearing construction clothing was reported to be in the area around the time of the incident but have determined they were not responsible for the assault. “Police are providing this clarification to address information that has circulated publicly and to help ensure investigative efforts remain focused on relevant information,” OPP say. Police say an increased presence of officers remains in the area as an investigation continues. Residents and businesses in the areas of Glendale Avenue, McElligott Drive and the surrounding neighbourhood area asked to review security, doorbell or dash camera footage captured on the day of the incident.
