Special air quality statement for Ottawa, region ended

After several smoky days in the capital, Environment Canada has lifted its special air quality statement for the city, but wildfires remain across the country.

The special air quality statement that was issued for eastern Ontario and western Quebec Thursday has been lifted.

Environment Canada issued the statement warning of smoke from wildfires in western Canada. The statement was lifted Sunday morning.

“As smoke levels increase, health risks increase. Limit time outdoors. Consider reducing or rescheduling outdoor sports, activities and events,” said the weather agency.

It feels nice this Sunday in Ottawa with sunny skies and air quality with low to moderate health risk.

The air quality health index is at level three this morning, which is a low health risk. Environment Canada is forecasting a maximum of level four today, which is a moderate health risk.

On Friday, the capital’s air quality was rated 10+ or “Very High Risk” at 4 p.m., after a slight improvement earlier in the day. On Saturday, the air quality health index was at level five, a moderate health risk, in the early hours of Saturday morning in Ottawa. As of 9 a.m., the level climbed to six.

Smoke from wildfires in western Canada blanketed all of Ontario, western New York State and most of Quebec, according to www.firesmoke.ca.

The weather agency calls for a high of 24 C today. A low of 14 C and partly cloudy skies are forecasted overnight.

A high of 23 C and a 30 per cent chance of showers are in the forecast for Monday. A low of 15 C and showers are expected overnight.

Tuesday will be rainy. A high of 23 C and a 40 per cent chance of showers are expected. A low of 13 C and cloudy periods are anticipated for the night.
