South East Health Unit warns of possible infection exposure at Carleton Place, Ont. nail salon

The South East Health Unit is warning residents of Carleton Place of a possible risk of exposure to bloodborne infections at a local nail salon.

According to the health unit, clients who received a manicure, pedicure, or waxing services at Ivy Beauty Bar on McNeely Avenue between May 31, 2023, and Oct. 17, 2025, might have been exposed to equipment that was not properly cleaned and disinfected.

“These services are generally low risk for infections when infection prevention and control procedures are followed. However, improperly cleaned and disinfected instruments can potentially lead to transmission of bloodborne infections such as hepatitis B, hepatitis C and to a lesser extent, HIV,” the South East Health Unit said in a news release Wednesday.

Anyone who received these services during this time is encouraged to speak to a health-care provider and pursue testing, if recommended.

The health unit says the risk of infection is low, and no illnesses have been linked to the salon. Additionally, it says Ivy Beauty Bar has taken immediate corrective action and now meets the required infection prevention and control standards necessary to operate safely.
