Section of Kichi Zìbì Mìkan to close this weekend and reopen with 2 lanes in each direction

The City of Ottawa says a section of the Kichi Zìbì Mìkan will be fully closed this weekend, but when it reopens, it will have two lanes of traffic in each direction.

The closure will affect a stretch of the parkway between Carling Avenue and Island Park Drive starting at 11:30 p.m. Friday. It is scheduled to reopen at 5:30 a.m. Monday.

“The full closure is required to complete work to restore Kichi Zìbì Mìkan to two lanes of traffic in each direction. The road will reopen on Monday, November 17 in its final configuration, with two lanes available for traffic in both directions,” the City of Ottawa said.

This is part of the Stage 2 O-Train extension project in the west end of the city, which includes a cut-and-cover tunnel between Lincoln Fields and Kichi Zìbì stations, under part of the Kichi Zìbì Mìkan.

The western extension from Tunney’s Pasture to Moodie Drive and Algonquin College is scheduled to open in 2027.

Detours

The city says drivers can use the following detours between Carling Avenue and Island Park Drive:

Entering eastbound on the Kichi Zìbì Mìkan between Woodroffe Avenue and Island Park Drive:

• Proceed east on Carling Avenue until Churchill Avenue
• Turn left onto Churchill Avenue and proceed north until Richmond Road
• Turn right and continue eastbound until Island Park Drive
• Turn left and continue northbound

Entering westbound on the Kichi Zìbì Mìkan at Island Park Drive:

• Proceed south on Island Park Drive until Richmond Road
• Turn right onto Richmond Road and continue west until Churchill Avenue
• Turn left onto Churchill Avenue and continue south until Carling Avenue
• Turn right and continue westbound

From Friday, November 14 at 10:30 pm until Monday, November 17 at 6 am, routes 57, 61, 62, 63, 74, 75 and 87 will be detoured between Westboro Station and Lincoln Fields Station via Churchill, Richmond, Woodroffe, and Carling, in each direction.
