4 people displaced after Chilliwack house fire

Four people were displaced after a house fire in Chilliwack early Saturday morning, according to firefighters.

In a statement, Chilliwack Fire Department Asst. Chief Wade Meeres says crews were called to the 46000 block of Mayfair Avenue around 4:50 a.m.

About 15 firefighters responded to the blaze and found smoke and flames coming out of the attic.

“Firefighters established a water supply and quickly contained the fire, successfully preventing extension beyond the attic space,” Meeres wrote. “Crews conducted an offensive interior fire attack and confirmed that all occupants had safely evacuated the residence.”

There were no reported injuries to people in the home or firefighters.

Emergency support volunteers attended to help the four displaced residents and their pets.

“The Chilliwack Fire Department would like to remind all residents to ensure working smoke alarms are installed on every level of the home and in each sleeping area,” the statement continues.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
