Residents celebrate love in the capital on Valentine’s Day

People were out and about to celebrate love in the capital city on Valentine’s Day. CTV’s Camille Wilson has the story.

Love is in the air in Ottawa on Saturday as many celebrated Valentine’s Day with their loved ones.

Couples took to the Grand Pizzeria in Westboro, The Gondola dining experience providing an intimate setting.

“Our friend’s coming over for the weekend and also having a double date,” says Marie Cormier.

The restaurant made heart shaped pizzas and decorated the tables with hearts, flower petals and chocolate for a romantic atmosphere.

“Saturdays are one of our busier days. It’s our first Valentine’s Day. We’re booked up so we can’t we be happier about that,” says David Mangano, owner of The Grand Pizzeria.

IKEA celebrated the day by serving a $1 breakfast between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., with proceeds going to a good cause.

“It’s a great deal because when you get your breakfast, proceeds will be going to the Breakfast Club of Canada,” says Abby Mak, customer relations manager at Ikea Ottawa. “We really want to encourage accessibility for the many and the affordability for the many. This is something that we think is great for the community, great for our customers.”

Fruit, pancakes, sausage, eggs and hashbrowns were all on the menu.

Some in the capital spent the day celebrating Galentine’s Day.

“We came for Galentine’s Day. My mother-in-law invited us and then we said ‘yes, obviously,’ because who can refuse $1 breakfast,” says Rebecca Kohlman, who attended IKEA’s $1 breakfast.
