A shelter-in-place notice has been lifted for residents of Saint-Hubert on Montreal’s South Shore following a fire on Tuesday afternoon. The area affected was bordered by Cornwall Street and Payer, Gaétan-Boucher, and Maricourt boulevards due to the presence of smoke. The order was issued after a fire started at 4:23 p.m. in barrels storing metals in an industrial building in the 5000 block of Ramsay Street near the Ecocentre, according to Maxime Chretien, a division chief with the Longueuil fire department. Residents were being asked to stay indoors, close their doors and windows and turn off their air exchangers until further notice. They can now resume regular activities. City officials were on scene assessing the situation, but said there is no immediate danger to the public. Residents requiring information can contact the Citizens Services Centre by calling 311 or 450-463-7311.
