Porter Airlines launching flights from Ottawa to Miami, Phoenix

Porter Airlines is launching new flights from Ottawa to hubs in the U.S. at a time when many Canadians are travelling elsewhere. CTV’s Josh Marano reports.

Ottawa travellers have two more options to escape the cold temperatures this winter, as Porter Airlines rolls out flights from the capital to Miami and Phoenix.

Porter Airlines and the Ottawa International Airport held an event Monday morning to celebrate “more sun from Ottawa.”

Porter initially launched the Ottawa-Miami non-stop service on Jan. 24, while flights between Ottawa and Phoenix will begin on Feb. 7.

Each route will fly three times a week.

“Both new routes provide greater international and cross-border connectivity for onward travel by two significant hubs for Porter’s codeshare partner, American Airlines,” Porter Airlines said in a statement.

“In Phoenix, this opens up 36 additional destinations in the Western U.S. operated by American Airlines and its affiliates, including Tucson, Honolulu, Kahului, and San Diego, and offering easy connections to many popular cities.”

This is the first time the Ottawa Airport offers a non-stop flight to Arizona.

“The ongoing addition of nonstop routes from YOW reflects Porter’s commitment to Ottawa-Gatineau,” Andrew Pierce, vice president of network planning and reporting at Porter Airlines, said in a statement.

“Canadians want to escape winter and these in-demand routes provide more options and more sun for the region.”

Porter Airlines says the Ottawa to Miami flight will depart Ottawa at 10:10 a.m. and arrive at 1:55 p.m. The Ottawa to Miami flight will leave Miami at 2:55 p.m. and arrive in Ottawa at 6:35 p.m.

The Ottawa to Phoenix flight will depart Ottawa at 10:20 a.m. and arrive at 1:45 p.m., while the return flight will depart Phoenix at 2:45 p.m. local time and arrive in Ottawa at 9:15 p.m.

Porter Airlines adding flights from Ottawa to Miami and Phoenix comes as statistics show fewer travellers chose to fly to and from the United States out of the Ottawa Airport in 2025.

Statistics available on the Ottawa Airport website show 726,311 passengers travelled on Transborder flights between Ottawa and the United States in 2025, down from 741,449 passengers in 2024.

Miami is the latest Florida destination added to the travel itinerary out of the Ottawa Airport. Porter also offers flights to Orlando, Tampa, Fort Myers, and Fort Lauderdale.

Porter Airlines also runs flights from Ottawa to Mexico, The Bahamas, Cayman Islands and Costa Rica.
